The Cortex Innovation Case Study is published

The Cortex Innovation Case Study is out. It tells the whole story: the partnership model that Canterbury DHB and Sense Medical built through the Via Innovations programme, the General Surgery pilot, the measured outcomes, and the rollout that followed.

Handwritten ward round paperwork and an annotated printed patient list, details redacted
Where the story starts: ward round paperwork, details redacted.

David Meates, Canterbury DHB’s Chief Executive from 2009 to 2020, wrote the foreword. One line from it we’ll keep: “Ward rounds have been transformed with decisions made and tests activated at the bedside in real time. I have not seen a comparable solution anywhere.”

The case study covers the numbers in detail, including the 20% reduction in average length of stay and the 12.5% drop in readmissions measured in the trial wards, and it is honest about what made the project work: clinical champions holding the relationship, executives facilitating rather than directing, and a vendor with clinicians on the team.

You can now read it as a web story on our case study page.
